As Election Day 2018 approaches, pundits and reporters are asking, “What Next?” as they survey the harsh and extremely partisan landscape of this election. Can we, as a democratic nation, move beyond the gridlock that has forced us to operate at the political extremes for more than a decade? THE RENEWABLE ENERGY CONSENSUS

The Civil Society Institute (CSI) has been doing public opinion research on energy policy and the environment since 2004. The research you will read about are the most recent findings of a four-year study looking at public support for renewable energy and how concerns about water safety, quality and availability play a role in voters’ approach to environmental policies.

CSI’s approach to understanding public opinion is unique. We look for common ground. We want to understand the ways differences can be bridged so that collectively we can create breakthroughs on solutions. Currently, much of public opinion research measures the depth of division and conflict, and it leads to identifying political wedge issues instead of seeking solutions.
